Sherpa
A people of Tibetan descent living in the high Himalayan regions of eastern Nepal. Known for their adaptation to high altitude, they have long served as guides and porters on Mount Everest and other Himalayan expeditions.
The Sherpa advantage on Mount Everest is not just more blood. Many people adapt to altitude by making extra red cells, but Sherpas can have lower hemoglobin while their muscle mitochondria use oxygen more efficiently — a result of long evolution.
