About funfact.wiki

funfact.wiki was created by the editor of Pepper Note, which has the motto: "We deliver 'those things' that make you wonder 'How did you know that?'" Notice

funfact.wiki is currently developed and operated by a single individual. As a result, these guidelines may not fully cover every possible situation. In some cases, rules may be applied retroactively, or the operator may need to make unilateral decisions. We ask for your understanding as we work to establish and improve the service.

1. Basic Principles

💡 Core Philosophy of funfact.wiki

Unlike traditional wikis that focus on dictionary-style definitions, this wiki concentrates on interesting and fascinating facts related to concepts. Content that would typically appear in the 'Trivia' section of a regular wiki is the star here.

⚠️ Unique Structure to Achieve This

To implement this philosophy, funfact.wiki clearly separates Cards and Tags. This is the biggest difference from other wikis.

1Tags = Topics/Concepts

Tags represent topics or concepts. (e.g., "Picasso", "Quantum Mechanics", "Coffee", "French Revolution")

Tag Description: Write the dictionary definition and basic information about the concept.
Example) "Picasso" tag description: "Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter and sculptor..."

2Cards = Fun Facts/Trivia

Cards contain interesting and fascinating facts related to specific topics. Content that would go in the 'Trivia' section of a regular wiki.

Card Example:
"Picasso's full name consists of 23 words. Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios..."
This card is linked to the "Picasso" tag.

❌ Common Mistakes

  • Wrong: Writing "Picasso was a Spanish painter" as a card
  • Correct: Such basic definitions go in the "Picasso" tag's description
  • Wrong: Writing "Picasso's name has 23 words" in the tag description
  • Correct: Such interesting facts should be written as a card and linked to the "Picasso" tag

✅ Key Summary

  • Dictionary definitions, basic info → Tag description
  • Interesting facts, trivia → Create a card
  • Cards must be linked to relevant tags

2. Card Writing Rules

2.1 Content Length

Each card should be written within 300 characters as a principle. Please keep it concise and easy to read.

2.2 Tag Connection

All cards must have at least one tag. Tags serve to group related cards together.

2.3 Tag Naming (English)

English tags should use singular form by default.

For example, use "Goat" instead of "Goats", and "Animal" instead of "Animals". Exception: words that are naturally plural (e.g., "Sunglasses", "Scissors") keep their standard form.

2.4 Source Citation

If a card needs sources or additional explanation, please add them in the links section.

2.5 Fact Verification

The principle is not to post unverified or false information.

However, if the content is unverified but inherently interesting, or if mentioning such social conventions has value, you may post it with the 'hearsay' tag.

3. Copyright Policy

The copyright of each card belongs to the person who created it.

However, by posting a card, you agree to the following:

  • Content is distributed under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license
  • Follows attribution and share-alike conditions
  • Other users may edit and modify it (wiki-style)
  • Advertisements may be displayed on the site

4. Editing Rules

Editing follows these principles:

4.1 Good Faith Editing

Good faith edits such as typo corrections, sentence improvements, and accuracy enhancements are always welcome.

4.2 Use Discussions

If there are disagreements about content, please reach consensus through the discussion feature.

4.3 No Edit Wars

Repeatedly reverting the same content (edit wars) is prohibited. Resolve through discussion.

4.4 Respect Original Authors

Major edits that change the core meaning of a card are recommended to be discussed with the original author.

5. Deletion Rules

Cards may be deleted in the following cases:

  • Clearly false information
  • Content that infringes copyright
  • Content that defames specific individuals or groups
  • Inappropriate sexual or violent content
  • Advertising content that doesn't fit the wiki's purpose

If deletion is needed, community opinion can be gathered through discussion, or administrators can be notified.

6. Conflict Resolution

Step 1: Discussion

When editing conflicts arise, first attempt dialogue on the card's discussion page.

Step 2: Community Input

If not resolved through discussion, seek broader community opinion.

Step 3: Administrator Intervention

If still unresolved, administrator mediation can be requested.

Conflict Resolution Principles

  • Mutual Respect: Respect users with different opinions
  • Assume Good Faith: Assume good intentions in others' edits
  • Evidence-Based: Arguments should be based on sources and evidence
  • Seek Consensus: Aim for consensus rather than unilateral assertions

7. Reporting and Management

You can report the following issues:

  • False information or malicious edits
  • Copyright infringement
  • Defamation, profanity, or hate speech
  • Repeated edit wars or rule violations

Administrators will review reports and may take actions such as warnings, edit restrictions, or account suspension.

8. Translation Rules

funfact.wiki supports multiple languages to enable users worldwide to share knowledge.

Different language versions of the same content can be linked through the translation linking feature.

When translating, localization for easier understanding by target language readers is recommended over literal translation.

9. Guidelines Improvement

These guidelines evolve with the community's growth. Suggestions for guideline improvements are always welcome.
