Cosmology

Cosmology is the branch of astronomy and physics that studies the universe’s origin, evolution, large-scale structure, and ultimate fate.
'Big Bang' was named by the theory's chief opponent. British astronomer Fred Hoyle coined it in a 1949 BBC lecture to contrast his Steady State cosmology with the notion that all matter erupted from nothing at one moment. The label went global; Hoyle never accepted the theory.

The James Webb Space Telescope has found mature galaxies only a few hundred million years after the Big Bang. Such objects appear earlier than standard cosmology expected, so astronomers are rechecking how fast galaxies could grow in the young universe.
