Aztec Empire
The Aztec Empire was a fifteenth-century Mesoamerican state built around the alliance of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. It fell to Spanish forces and their Indigenous allies in 1521.
Oxford is older than the Aztec Empire. The earliest record of teaching at Oxford dates to 1096; the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan was founded in 1325. We call the Aztecs an 'ancient' civilization, yet it began only when Oxford was already over two centuries old.
