Marathon
A long-distance running event covering 42.195 km. Named after the legend of a messenger from the plain of Marathon in Greece, it began together with the modern Olympics.
At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, marathon runner Shizo Kanakuri collapsed from heat and fell asleep in a local home. He quietly returned to Japan, listed as missing. In 1967, at 76, he returned to finish. Official time: 54 years, 246 days, 5 hours, 32 minutes, 20.3 seconds.

South Korea's National Treasure No. 904 is an ancient Greek bronze helmet. Meant for 1936 Berlin Olympics marathon winner Son Ki-jung, the IOC refused to deliver it. It reached him 50 years later in 1986, and he donated it to the nation.
