McDonald's Filet-O-Fish was Cincinnati franchisee Lou Groen's idea after Lenten Fridays crushed hamburger sales in his Catholic neighborhood. Founder Ray Kroc resisted but pitted it against his own 'Hula Burger' — Filet-O-Fish won 350 to 6 and went nationwide.
