Antibiotic

A drug that kills bacteria or stops them from multiplying; it is used to treat bacterial infections and has no effect on viral infections.
Sterile fly maggots are an FDA-approved medical device. They eat only dead tissue and secrete compounds that clean wounds and kill drug-resistant bacteria. Where antibiotics fail against chronic infections, maggot therapy can work. The FDA cleared it in 2004.

A hippo's red 'blood sweat' is neither blood nor sweat. Lacking sweat glands, hippos ooze red fluid from special skin glands. Kyoto researchers found its pigment, hipposudoric acid, acts as a natural UV sunscreen and an antibiotic.
