Mammoth
An extinct genus of elephants that ranged widely across the Ice Age Northern Hemisphere, characterized by long curved tusks and thick fur.
The last mammoths outlived the Great Pyramid of Giza. Most vanished about 10,000 years ago, but an isolated herd on Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean survived until roughly 2000 BC. The Pyramid rose around 2560 BC—so mammoths still walked the Earth after it was built.
