Traffic jam
A condition in which demand for road space exceeds a road's capacity, so vehicle flow slows dramatically or comes to a halt.
On a highway, when one car slows down slightly, following cars decelerate even more in a chain reaction. This cascade can create zones where traffic stops completely—with no accident or construction ahead. This is called a 'phantom traffic jam.'
